opposing sides

mistake is the bowl we’ve dipped into for our selfish hunger

i offer no excuses, i take no excuses

i sail through fields and forests to numb the absence

a leaf in my throat, a stain in my memory

twelve seasons pass, i feel no lesser

filled with hate, but i will starve for its opposite

it’s the sun of your heart that melts me

Too much never seems to be enough.

I think there is without a doubt, changes society can make in popular culture to better itself. Really, I think that question is just a no-brainer. I believe there is always something we can do to better ourselves and our culture. The first thing I would have to say is that we should all not be so dead set on money and having as much as you can get and high priced items, that are as good as the cheaper priced ones, just because of their names and just because it makes you look like you are filthy stinking rich. Brand names mean nothing at all except that you like to spend money on over priced items as opposed to donating it to better causes and such. The second thing i would say is that we should stop being so concerned with our appearances, but not so much that we don't care about our bodies. I've seen it becoming a trend now that people eat unhealthy and don't exercise and say it shouldn't matter how they look or what people think so they shouldn't watch what they eat or go to the gym. Though honestly, you should not care what anyone thinks of your body. But you should not neglect it either. Be healthy. I want for myself to stop saying I don't care and ruining my body just because I don't want to care what anyone thinks. I want to be healthy and feel good from the inside out. And in that note we also shouldn't worry so much that we spend gobs of money on plastic surgery and makeup and hair supplies and things to make us look artificially good. Or worry about fashion trends or stop eating to lose a few pounds. It's hard not to get caught up in it sometimes and I too find myself wanting to look a little different, but for the most part I am encouraging myself to be happy with myself. It's less stressful that way anyways. And in the media, when it comes to children, they are either showing too much or not enough. Some of the stuff that is rated PG now seems crazy and I don't like even my 15 year old sister watching it. But then all the movies for children are more toward everyone sharing and nothing about real life. They are nothing like the Disney movies, and take out anything sad or negative like death. Death is a part of life, and it's not necessarily a bad thing either, and it's not something we should try to hide from children.
My bigger point, is that there should be a common ground in the middle of all the things in today's popular culture as opposed to always having two extreme sides with everything. And the media and ourselves should encourage healthy and comfortable living as opposed to iving for looks and trends.
